What music are you all listening to right now?
I am not a big fan of most modern music but I like the occasional song, snow patrol seem to be one of them from what I've heard. I'm more into the older bands like the beatles though. I like a bit of Simon and Gerfunkel too

RE: What music are you listening too?
It's got to be 60s and 70s music for me. I was 15 when the Beatles came on the scene and with the birth of the pirate radio stations such as Radio London and Caroline it was a revelation after having to listen to the rubbish that was played on the BBC and the awful stuff that my older brother played - Eddie Cochrane etc. Hard rock is a particular favourite of mine, the noisier the better - real head-banging stuff.

Who would have thought !
I'm in the Simon & Garfunkel type camp as well, although I spent a lot of time in my younger days listening to classical music as presented by my father. I still listen to more opera than rock--but I don't actually listen to a lot of music nowadays. I actually prefer to have quiet...perhaps as a result of growing up in a household of six children?

I'm a big fan of J-rock & J-pop, and other music from Japan, Korea and China.
I also do like alot of good classical music, but i'm not so keen on opera (unless its delicious organ music like from Phantom of the Opera!)

My music tastes are quite varied and depend upon my mood and what I'm doing at the time. I love classical music and will often have it on if I'm working on something where I need to concentrate. My all-time fav piece is The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams. I also like Mediaeval Baebes who not only have wonderful voices but happen to be very nice to look at as well. If I'm after an energy boost I will often listen to something like Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones or AC/DC. There is only type of music that you won't find in my collection: Country & Western!!!

I am a bit of a disaster with music. I have no particular interests. I like anything that is up tempo , uplifting music. No one ever buys me Cd's or the like as they never know because I don't know myself. I do like brass bands though.
At the moment I listen to Ennio Morricone the music from 'The Mission' which is a film with Robert De Niro especially 'Gabriels Oboe'. I never get tired of playing it.
Another one is Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Auranjuez' played on Flugel by Paul Hughes of Grimethorpe Colliery Band in the film ' Brassed off' . I am also a big Mario Lanza fan.

It's strange, but I detest classical music. There are obvious pieces which I do find melodic, but most of it is more like a fingernail on a blackboard. It's the same with opera and most especially organ music. Can't explain it, but that's how I am . Yet I enjoy Bob Dylan - and he's really scratchy! Simon and Garfarkle are okay, but a bit samey. I gues I'm just a music phillestine.

That's a nice way of calling me a phillistine!
I was once berrated by a woman for daring to say that I didn't enjoy classical music. I've often been told it's because I don't understand it, but my reply is that if I don't understand something it's because the "author" has failed in their attempt to explain!

I quite like a couple of Queen bits also. Don't get me wrong Wild Canon I do not sit there & listen to classical music like Morse or anything, it's just that I am really fussy about what I listen to. I like odd bits from everywhere so my music tastes do not fit into one particular catagory.I quite like Gene Pitney too & the only songs I can sing along to are 60's music.

I like everything really apart from hip hop & rap - my favourites right now are Billie Holiday & Nina Simone - then a large jump into time - The Killers & Amy Winehouse. I also love Boards of Canada & Bola - any electronica & I'm happy, esp. as a background to when I paint.
Although the last album I bought was 'The World's Greatest Euphoric Trance' LOL

People like what people like and I don't see the point of berrating someone for their personal tastes. Personally, I've never seen the fascination with Shakespeare, which probably brackets me as a literary phillistine. And as for some of the things hanging in the Tate Modern....
There is some 'heavy' classical music that does nothing whatsoever for me and some of that wailing opera sounds more like cats fighting in a sack, so I can fully appreciate your point of view. However, don't always blame the "author"; a lot of this music is centuries old and was written when the world and audiences were very different. Fortunately, today we have an almost endless variety of entertainment to choose from.
And it's quite amazing how many people recognize and like music from various TV adverts without even realising that they are snippets of popular classics.

Funny that, I find Shakespeare to be totally boring, as is poetry too. I have to agree with you about modern art also.
