December Winner: Markulous and Year Winner: Wild Canon

Congratulations to Markulous on winning the final competition of 2009 and Wild Canon on winning the overall competition for the year!

The top 3 members this year were:

1st - Wild Canon (80 votes)
2nd - Markulous (40 votes)
3rd - Keith (33 votes)

Congratuations to all three of you and also a big thanks to everyone who entered this year. If you'd like to know your score then please contact Jamie.

As you know, this was Jamie's last month running the competition so a huge thank you to him from everyone at the forum. He's run the competition brilliantly and I'm sure you'll agree it's been a big success.

Weather Forecast

Well, the pine cone and hanging seaweed brigade (aka the Met Office) told us it was going to be sunny today with the chance of a shower or two.

This was Buxton at around 11.30 this morning

It was snowing hard when I left home at just before 9 am, and it has continued through until now at almost 12 noon.

We got told a few days back it was going to be heavy snow, and what did it do instead? Heavy rain Icon_lol

I would have been out today, if I hadn't been at workIcon_sad I'd be grateful to know what sort of wildlife pics I could get around here in this weather, even the red grouse will be hiding!

I meant when it has settled,if buxton is like where i live then you`ll have quite an array of wildlife, especially robins.

I don't photograph garden birds in this weather, not because it's too cold for me, but because they are stressed enough and don't need any more disturbance than they get already. They can feed in peace as far as I'm concerned.

RE: Weather Forecast

I do photograph them but from indoors which they are well-used to me doing so it doesn't bother them. I tend not to go outside to photograph them feeding at any time of year as even in spring/summer they are frantically feeding their young so have the same urgency about finding food.

RE: Weather Forecast

And this was this afternoon on our local moors with the dog and on skis.

And of course our village is cut off as all roads were closed this afternoon by heavy snow. Doesn't bother most of living here. Anyway I've got my skis and the Laurel has plenty of ale left.

Great pictures. Snow is so beautiful to look at, although I wasn't too fond of it when I had to abandon my car and walk home.

RE: Weather Forecast

Snowing when I took the dog out last night. 7 cm on the car this morning and still snowing hard. Lovely.

Thank goodness for the 4 wheel drive car we've got. While it MAY be possible to get around with 2 wheel drive, having 4x4 means less hazardous driving and it would be extremely difficult to get back on to our road without. We must have had at least 30 cm of snow since this weather started before Christmas, but no sign of a gritter.
