Wasp Spider

While I was out walking I came across an odd looking spider, on closer examination I thought the markings resembled a wasp, suprise suprise, it was a wasp spider, I'd never seen anything like it before, are these common or rare. Thank you
Christine

this is the first time I've tried to add pictures to the post and they seem very small, I don't know if this is usuall or I've done something wrong, which wouldn't suprise me one little bit Icon_redface

RE: Wasp Spider

Great photos, thanks for posting them! Don't worry it can be alittle confusing posting pictures to start with! I think that the best way is to post them in the gallery and then link to them from there. There are instructions written by Xeract in the help forum Icon_biggrin

Beautiful photos, Christine.

As riana said, photos are always a bit mysterious to new people, although once you get the hang of it, it's similar in every forum you will ever visit!

The pics were taken about a fortnight ago, but when I took my dog for a walk over there last Thursday I couldn't see them either Icon_smile

Thanks wild canon, the link is very informative, where I found them is an area of long grass and such like that doesn't get maintained at all, and there is also loads of grasshoppers there as well, which it says is one of the things they feed on, it's nice when it all falls into place Icon_mrgreen

I've just been over there again today, and they're back, two of them a lot smaller and one big one, maybe they went of to lay their eggs, I just love them Icon_cheesygrin

RE: Wasp Spider

Am I right in saying that the larger ones are probably the females and the smaller the male?

RE: Wasp Spider

That probably does explain the different sizes. The land of the spiders is quite heavily weighted in favour of the female, as demonstrated by the males tendancy to get eaten either by acccident or on purpose by the female Icon_biggrin
