Twitchers in the City.
I parked my car in the centre of Lincoln earlier today, just across the road from the Cathedral, and there stood on the pavement, fifty yards ahead, looking very incongruous was a knot of a dozen or so birders with all their equipment, bins, scopes, long-lensed cameras. Why? Well the Peregrines are back in town, a pair of Peregrines are nesting again on the Cathedral's Central Tower.

Ah, it makes sense. The Peregrines are regulars now each year aren't they?

I believe they have just taken up residence again at Worcester Cathedral as well. I wasn't aware that Peregrines were all C of E!!

RE: Twitchers in the City.
I think you are making the typical mistake that is so common these days, especially in the media - confusing twitchers with birders!

Maybe we should stick to the faith issue to avoid any controversy......................

There are webcam pictures from the Peregrines' nest on Lincoln Cathedral on Radio Lincolnshire's website. Also on the site are webcam pictures from an Osprey's nest at Rutland Water and from a Barn Owl's nest.

Thanks Dogwood. I just took a look but no sign of the birds in the nest - will have another look later
Do as you would be done by. Do as you would be did. A burning pot is mighty hot, so don't sit on the lid.

RE: Twitchers in the City.
Find the city, find the cathedral and you will find Peregrines. Notable exceptions are the London Peregrines who seem to prefer industrial architecture in the shape of the old power station that is now the Tate modern, the Battersea power station, also the millennium dome (surely the most expensive nest box in the universe!)
Urban peregrines are doing remarkably well - I'm involved as a volunteer in two peregrine projects: the Chichester cathedral one - finishes on the 21st of June - the young (just fledged) birds are showing remarkably well, do visit if you can this week; and the Tate Modern London project which will start on the 19th of July and run until mid-September. I hope that you will join me there. Check out the RSPB website Aren't birds brilliant section for peregrines near you!

Just to add to Nat's post - urban peregrines are doing really well and there are a number of webcams set up (Chichester, Derby to name but two) so you can see the birds on line if you can't get there in person.
Also, London has six breeding pairs that we are aware of - wouldn't it be great if we could have 12 pairs by the 2012 Olympics.

Cos we've got Ledley at the back!

I'm sure theres more chance of that than London being ready for 2012!
