TV's on standby

We all know the effects global warming is having/could have on our environment in the future and I'm open to any suggestions for how emissions could be cut as I don't believe it is too late to do something about it. A lot is said about doing small things like turning your TV off standby, but I find it difficult to believe that much energy is saved by this at all. Does anyone have any real figures for how much energy/CO2 emissions would be saved if everyone in the country turned their TV off standby?

Personally, I think that our best bet is to do as much as possible now, but also invest heavily in renewable fuels because I don't think that it is possible for the world to cut their emissions by that much if there is no replacement energy source. Especially with the growth of emissions in China and elsewhere.

RE: TV's on standby

It is a race against time to try and find a solution, and many people are working hard to try and come up with a clean energy source. We can't rely on that though, and if we carry on at this emission rate global warming will continue quickly and we will have less time to find a solution. Cutting emissions gives us more time to find a real solution, and gives us a chance if we can't find one.

In regards to TV's on standby, it's such a small thing but if everyon did it a large amount of energy would be saved.
