Treated Moss In Nest

Rather thoughtlessly, I have recently treated my lawns with moss killer and the moss has already started to blacken and die. Then I remembered that several bird species collect moss for their nests and straight away, I have seen sparrows and blackbirds collecting the moss.
Does anyone have knowledge of whether the blackened moss can have a harmful effect on the collectors carrying it in their beaks and on the birds in the moss lined nest? I am already in the process of raking the moss away.
