Night owls in the UK and Ireland will be able to enjoy a total lunar eclipse this month - if the clouds stay away. But you will have to stay up late to see it! The eclipse occurs when the Full Moon glides through the shadow of the Earth in space.
From Britain, the entire event happens in the early hours of February 21st, meaning you will have to wait up on the night of February 20th.

I'll definitely be out there if the clouds give us a good observing night! I think a thermos of hot chocolate and a very warm coat will be needed if the weather stays like this!

The moon goes very red during lunar eclipses, it's really amazing to see. Last time it was a bit more of a reasonable time, but it will still be worth staying up to see this one if you can, especially if you've never seen one before. I've heard that binoc's really help as well if you have a pair.

Hmmm might be worth staying out late, find somewhere with little or no light pollution and set the big lens up will see what the clouds doing on the night

Unfortunately at about 11pm here it was cloudy so I didn't bother staying up. According to a friend it stayed cloudy all night so I didn't miss much. Did anyone else get to see it?

Here in my part of the world we had cloud cover all night . Oddly, it was just my immediate area, as I saw many spectacular photos taken in Seattle!

Great photo wild canon, I love how the moon goes so red during an eclipse. It's a shame there was so much cloud cover this time though, as I don't think there is another until 2010!

I was working nights. Saw the whole thing. The only cloud was when it was totally eclipsed so didnt miss much. Superb to watch.

You were very lucky to see it as there was so much cloud cover in most places. I've heard that it was actually to better to watch in the North than South, although obviously not everywhere was covered. They really are spectacular to watch!

One of the rare times i didnt have my camera with me too! Tried to get a shot of it on my phone but it was too distant. Funny that!
