Top Gear

What are your opinions on Top Gear? It seems that it is a love-hate program, there isn't much middle ground.

The reason I don't like the program - and I think this is the main reason why others don't - is Jeremy Clarkson. It makes me frustrated when he boasts about things he has done such as burning as much Carbon Dioxide as possible to "annoy the environmentalists". I don't actually believe he does do things like that, but people in a position where you can talk to millions of viewers should be more responsible with their "jokes"

The program itself can be entertaining but I am one of those people who thinks it encourages fast driving without much though for the consequence.

RE: Top Gear

I'm actually a fan of Top Gear, although I can see point about some of Clarkson's jokes. He has toned them down a bit in the last couple of years though and I rarely hear them now. He has also said he dosen't actually believe the things he says about global warming, he has said so in his column several times. Why he feels the need to joke about it - especially when he has such a large audience - is beyond me.

Oh my, it looks as if I am missing something. I will have to see if this program is available in the United States...

It's a great program if your interested in cars or some funny stunts. I'm sure you will be able to catch it on BBC at some point.

RE: Top Gear

It seems that there is a North American version, but I have not been able to find it offered on my local channels. I'll just have to imagine what I'm missing for the moment Icon_smile .

RE: Top Gear

There was an article on the BBC website this Morning on how Jeremy Clarkson has managed to offend an entire country (Malaysia) by calling one of their cars the worst in the world.

Apparently, he said the name sounded like a disease and the car had "unimaginative junk, with no soul, no flair and no passion", before hanging it from a crane and blowing it to pieces.

This hasn't gone down well in Malaysia unsurprisingly!

RE: Top Gear

I can see where that would not make the Malaysians very happy.

On the other hand, I find most of the cars made in the United States to also be "unimaginative junk" as well!
