The sun has come out!
Well the sun has finally appeared! It was sunny all day yesterday here and it's started the same today, so I'm going to get out an make the most of the sun by going for a walk and a picnic.
What are you all going to be doing in the sunshine? Lets just hope it lasts!

RE: The sun has come out!
We have the opposite conditions going on here--it's been hot and dry for over a week, and forecast is for the temperature to reach over 32 degrees (90 degrees Fahrenheit). I'm still planning on going for a very long bicycle ride today (probably a metric century, or over 100 kms= 60 + miles). We've got a group ride going at 8.00 am.

Thats a long bike ride Kingfisher, hope it went well!
I'm pleased to say that its sunny at the moment, could this be three days in a row? The weather forecast online still says its going to rain but its said that for the last two days too, so fingers crossed its wrong again.

RE: The sun has come out!
Well my ride did not go quite as planned! I did get in 30 miles, but my rear tyre flatted, and I did not have the proper tool to take off the wheel (it's an older bike, with nutted axles instead of modern quick releases skewers). I even had the pump and correct tube, too!
However, I DID get to ride in a velodrome (that's a race track for bicycles):

Rather frightening, as the walls have quite a bit of camber, but after a couple of turns I got the hang of it. It's much hard than it looks, as the faster one goes the easier it is to stay upright, but that means going FAST!

RE: The sun has come out!
I've virtually given up on the bike this year. It seems that just thinking about it is enough to have the dark clouds rolling in. However, it has given me more opportunity to get out walking and actually see the countryside (I find that on a bike I'm too busy looking out for the next obstacle waiting to have me off!). Just got back from a great walk through the local woods. What really surprised me was, given how much rain we've had recently, the tracks across the fields are amazingly dry and hard.

Yes, that is me in the photo, circling around at a high rate of speed. I think I got up to around 27 mph at one point (that's a bit over 43 kph). I was not riding a real track bike (they don't have brakes, for one thing), but it was a most interesting experience. By the way, that is not very fast for a racer, I believe they manage 40 mph or more when at their peak efforts.

The velodrome looks very intimidating! I don't think I could ride round it, I couldn't get the speed up. It must be a great experience though.
I went into the woods yesterday and it is almost dry and hard around here too. The ground seems to have dried so fast.

Its quite astonishing but its true!
The sun has come out but it doesn't have that summer feel at the moment, maybe that's just me.

Well I didn't get the grass mown , it rained again...still the up bit is that there is more clover for the bees. Still very changeable here but we didn't have as much rain as in other areas to cause floods just enough to be a nuisance. I've forgotten what it's like to see the sun!

RE: The sun has come out!
Enjoyed yesterday's sunshine (when it eventually appeared) from the top of Box Hill (part of the Surrey section of the North Downs). Views were fantastic (unfortunately, I didn't take a camera... mental note to do so next time).
However, no surprise, this morning it's raining again!! Forecast for tomorrow is more rain. What happened to the long, hot, dry summers we were threatened with?
Still, I agree, when you see film of those poor people who have been flooded, a bit of inconvenient rain isn't really a major deal.

RE: The sun has come out!
It's been drizzling here all morning - urgh! My son is supposed to be having his sports day at school this afternoon, but I suspect it will be cancelled now...
Nope, we can't complain really when so many others have had their lives turned upside down by the recent weather.
We come from Surrey originally Timberwolf and my auntie lives near Pulborough. We always take her dog for a walk on the Downs when I visit - tis lovely!

Box Hill does have some amazing views, especially on a clear day.
Its very disappointing that the weather still isn't really summer weather, just lots of clouds. It is much warmer now but I hope its not going to be like this for the rest of summer.
