RE: The sun has come out!
According to a Met office report, August has apparently been sunnier than usual . Sunshine readings across the UK, they claim, have been a third higher than average. South-eastern and central England have been the sunniest with two-thirds the normal monthly quota for the region in the first two weeks. They claim that because of the torrential rain in May, June and July, our perception is that the whole summer has been bad (so it's our fault for being a nation of pessimists with very short memories!).
I can only suggest that they should have been out with me building fences today. I'm sure that the horizontal rain that eventually called a halt to progress would have influenced their statistics .

RE: The sun has come out!
I have to report from the North West that today has been exceptionally SUNNY!!!! We have had a good day in the garden & this is how it should be. Unfortunately I got a horse-fly bite on my shoulder , but it was worth it. We mowed the excuse of a lawn , strimmed & then strimmed grass bank across the road. Pruned a bit here & there & chopped unwanted saplings down. Good maintenance all round.Finished it off with a glass of wine sat in the sunshine. Not bad for the first day of my summer hols being spent at home for the first time in 3 years. I hope tomorrow is as nice............

#61 and #62 represent the highs and the lows, don't they?

It's becoming a bit like Groundhog Day: put up more fencing today... got soaked again! I eventually got so wet that I actually stopped noticing that it was raining
Good on you Tibbar; I'm glad that someone is getting some decent weather.

Today is the third day in a row,sun is here but it started off FOGGY
It felt like November... Skip says the fog was forecast but I find it a bit.. well...weird!! As for the nice weather in May it seems all too far away. Hopefully at least my 'at home hols' will be sunny..

Foggy down here too... water dripping off the trees... a distinct chill in the air... definitely more like November.
Had to clear out the bird feeders which, due to all the rain, have become filled with a substance more akin to porridge... yurk!
Still, rumour is that it's all set to change for the weekend
The one thing I do like about the mist is walking in the woods, which take on an other-worldly feel, especially when the sun starts to break through and you get a combination of the sun's rays shooting through the canopy and the last wispy trails of mist wrapping themselves around the trees - one of those spiritual moments that you can get when out in the countryside.

RE: The sun has come out!
I think summer may well now be over! I can't believe the weather this year, but it's started to get cloudy again and it's been raining on and off this morning. I'm going away for a few days next week so hopefully it will have cleared up and we have some sunshine but I'm not counting on it.

Nice & sunny here but I somehow don't think that it will last. The past couple of days have been overcast & yesterday it never stopped raining all day. Luckily we took the decision to go to Chatsworth Country Fair on Saturday & although it was mostly overcast it stayed dry with some sunny bits.

RE: The sun has come out!
It's been a reasonable few days down here, and the forecast for the coming week looks good (for September). I have to say that it's almost been perfect for working outside. We eventually finished the fencing and were quite thankful (as we dug down through compacted chalk and flint and dug out the original concrete footings) that it wasn't as hot as last year.
Unfortunately, I think that summer's over: the temperatures are beginning to drop, especially in the mornings and the nights are noticably drawing in.

RE: The sun has come out!
This last week we had non stop sunshine while we were in Somerset.
Drove back from Scotland on the Friday in sunshine, had 9 sunny days in Somerset and today drove to Cardiff and back through Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and into Wales and back in sunshine again! Shame was today I couldn't stop off and enjoy it.
The slighly depressing thing is seeing the evenings draw in, I don't look forward to the nights when it is already dark before you get home.

I was quite surprised when it started getting dark around 7:30-8 ish recently, you realy notice when the days start getting shorter.
It sounds like everyones been getting some good weather though which is great news. We've had some sunshine yesterday and today here, hopefully it continues through September.

Sounds like a brilliant trip. It's strange but whenver I have been to somerset in the past it has been good weather, there must be something in the name!
I'm pleased to say that today has been a gorgeous day with plenty of sunshine.

RE: The sun has come out!
Yes we were lucky with the weather in Somerset, first time I had really explored that county.
Unfortunately Scotland was work for 2 days and so was Wales. The rest of this week in London and then among other places 2 days working in Devon next week. I get to see a lot of places while working but sadly more often than not with little time to explore and especially now with the nights drawing in.

Yes today and yesterday were absolutely wonderful, a great change from the rest of the summer. I tried to make the most of it by going on a cycle ride and a walk. It was quite a relief to not have to walk through muddy paths for once, they seem to have dried up to a certain extent.
