RE: The sun has come out!
Has summer arrived at last?
Please disregard my optimism. Normal service has been resumed; it's raining again.
Well, you did say that a cool rain would be welcome .

Yes, lets blame Timberwolf for the rain!
It has actually been a brilliant weekend, the sun has been shining the entire time and temperatrues have been high. It definitely is beginning to feel like summer.
I had heard that there might be thundestorms later today though.

It looks as if Sunshine will have pegged the one true day of summer correctly--it's looking quite likely that 15 August will actually be 'summery'.

Err... sorry folks...
Hope that the weather for everyone over the weekend was as glorious as it was here in Surrey. Went to our local steam and country fair. I find the steam traction engines fascinating, and I have nothing but admiration for the dedication of those enthusiasts who spend years (and no small amount of money) restoring them to their former glory. It's hard not to get nostalgic when you see these powerful giants lumbering around the arena.
However, highlight of the day was the birds of prey demonstration, with the Peregrine Falcon stealing the show with its high-speed low-level manoeures inches above the heads of the crowd.

Off topic for the UK countryside, but in keeping with TimberWolf's above post:
Yesterday as I was riding my bicycle, I reached a spot on the bike path where I know a Sharp-shinned Hawk to live. Much to my astonishment, the Sharpie swooped over the path in front of me, and plucked a hapless American Robin from the sky.
An interesting look at Sharpies and Cooper's Hawks:

I know this to be a female Sharpie, as I have seen the bird on several occasions. It has very thin legs in contrast to the Cooper's rather thick legs.

Oh, and it was hot and muggy here in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State...

Must of been spectacular to see that happen infront of your eyes Kingfisher. We did have good weather over the weekend thanks Timberwolf, and it has been generally good apart from last night where there was terrential rain and lightning. Sunny today though, just about to go for a walk.

I wouldn't put any money on it. It's a horrible, grey, wet autumnal day here today (14th) with little prospects of improvement over the next couple of days. Still, they say that September is going to be nice

I am in Eastern Washington, where the temperature at Tonasket is currently 89 degrees Fahrenheit (almost 32 degrees Celsius). The fire danger here today is 'extreme' .

After a few days rain it seems we have some sunshine again, that seems to have been the pattern of this summer. I'm not that hopeful of getting any prolonged periods of hot weather this year.

Every cloud... as they say.
I was out doing that staple of all countryside volunteers - ragwort pulling - and was thankful that all the recent rain helped to make it a far easier job than it could have been.

Yes rain must make ragwort and all sorts of weed pulling a lot easier, at least some good has come out of the rain this year

I declare this the worst summer in history (of my life) It looks like November outside, grey cold and dark. Bring back the sun!

I can't disagree with that. I don't think that I can remember August being so cold
I notice that the TV hasn't been crowded with scientists telling us about how right they were in predicting the hottest, driest summer on record.
