The Oscars... yawn... yawn
Time for a rant
Is there anyone else like me who is fed up with the endless amount of airtime (and BBC licence payers' money) that is awarded every year to covering this unbelievably boring and utterly pointless event? All it seems to be is an endless stream of self-serving, publicity-seeking cardboard cutouts whose pointless acceptance speaches are about as interesting as their personalities. And then there are all those banal interviews as they are whisked-off to swish parties where they can all pretend to love each other. Personally, I thought Attonement was a reasonably good film (no more than that), but I couldn't care less whether or not it wins an award. Surely, the millions that they earn for a few minutes of acting should be enough to keep the stars happy. I can't wait until it's over!
Rant over

I'm with you TW. I always reckon that if a film wins an Oscar, it's not going to be worth watching. These awards are simply self-congratulation.

I've never had any time for the oscars! I do think that they have their place, aas not always the best films get the recognition they deserve, but it's all so over the top and with so much media coverage that I ust switch off from it all.

I'm with you too! The whole thing should be scrapped, and any money that would have been spent on it should be donated to charity
I know I know, never going to happen

Well you could say that about alot of pointless things squirreler. Personally I like the oscars and Im a bit of film manic.
The films that have recently just won oscars are juno and la vie en rose. The actress marion cotillard in la vie en rose who played edith piaf the famous french singer was amazing and after watching her performance she truly deserved an award by truly capturing the life of a legend.
As for juno, although the film wasn't one of my favourites it addresses a current issue in the world - teenage pregnancy and tries to break the stereotypical view seen of young girls who fall pregnant.
So I say on with the oscars! (Even if I am the minority )

Its the same as everything else. If you dont like it, turn over and watch something else. I can't stand it when i hear that the BBC or ITV have had 'complaints' from viewers. DONT BLOODY WATCH IT IF ALL YOU CAN DO IS COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. THATS WHY WE HAVE REMOTE CONTROLS!!!!!!!!

I must agree with you there Paul. Has anybody got Sky or Sky+? There are hundreds of channels so watch something on one of them!
I think people are complaining becasue the Oscars and other boring related programmes are on instead of programmes like Eastenders and Holby City.

It is various awards for films and actors. Such as best motion picture of 2008, best actor of 2008 etc...

The only possible reason for watching the Oscars is to see how ridiculously people dress.
Or, to see how nicely they dress .
I don't think I've watched the Oscars in over twenty years...probably longer, actually.

RE: The Oscars... yawn... yawn
I'm coming at this from a different angle.
I love films and I love the Oscars.
The problem I have is that I am an ntlworld subscriber and as I don't get SKY films (I use Lovefilm instead) I not only couldn't see the Oscars live but I couldn't see the highlights.
Everyone has their own tastes, but as I watch very little telly myself I don't see why I shouldn't watch what I want occasionally.
