Both Virgin and the perpetrators should be ashamed of themselves.

Unbelieably cruel. I haven't seen the advert in question but companies should have the sense to think things through before they broadcast adverts like that to millions of people.

RE: Terrapin firework
Well you know my love of tortoises (on pets thread) I do not want to believe that someone would do this for real but sadly I now can. Where do people lose their sense of reality. I used to watch Tom & Jerry but I didn't go round battering people with a brush. What makes me different?
Is it a question of the advert being wrong or is it just this is now a world where anything goes? I feel it is the latter coupled with no deterrents. What happens when a few more generations have gone ? It will be like Lord of the Flies......or will these people be forced to grow up & act responsibly? I'm left speechless.

I find it difficult to put too much blame on the advert. I haven't seen it, but it sounds like it is a cartoon tortoise using a rocket to get into space. There are plenty of cartoons where animals do ridiculous things, but that doesn't mean there is any excuse for people to go out and do it to defenceless animals.
There are plenty of hooligans around today, perhaps more than before, but I don't worry for humans future as they are still the minority. The majority of people do act responsibly, its just unfortunate that the minority get most of the attention.
While this is just a one off case, it does give some more strength to the argument against selling fireworks to the public too.

Obviously the actual blame has to lie with the people who put the poor thing on the rocket, but advertisers are well aware there are people like that around, and it I don't think that it would have ha[[ened if the idea had not been planted in the peoples head.
