Tawny Owls chicks

I'm just watching spring watch at the moment and there was an interesting tip that I thought I should share. If you see a baby tawny owl, and often any other bird, that has fallen out of the nest onto the floor, don't touch it just leave it where it is (and don't let your cat or dog near it). It is probably waiting for night time where it will attempt to claw its way back up the tree to the nest, and they will have much more chance of surviving if they are left to attmpt this.

The birds instinct is to not move when it falls and wait for the cover of darkness. It won't call for its parents as they would not be able to help, and it would only attract attention to itself.

On a side note, the tawny owl chicks are a brilliant site! They are the first tawny owls to appear in the spring watch boxes.

You're quite right. I think we had a discussion about this a few days ago. Have a look at these pics: http://www.rkmas.co.uk/tawny_owl_chick.html

That is just so...darling!

I sound just like an American, don't I?  Sorry...but it is cute.
