I found this spider in my bedroom.. can anyone tell me what type it is. Its approx 12-15mm long and can jump approx 10cm. I have looked at loads of photos and the closest I can find is the zebra spider but the colouring isnt the same and its larger.
Sorry about the poor quality of the photo but it was taken on a camera phone.
Thanks
Dave.

there are about 30 species of jumping spider in the UK. It has the look of a zebra spider but as you say the colouring is incorrect. There are only a few species in that genus and I don't think it matches. I will ask my friend
my arachnologist friend says "Definitely a jumping spider and could be Euophrys lanigera." This is a small spider though.
I found this website and thought that the markings were similar to Marpissa muscosa which is a bit larger. Having consulted his books my friend agrees.
Thanks for the info. Its a relief that its a uk spider as I was worried it may be something nasty from abroad because the day I saw the spider I had been unpackaging some wodden flooring from Brazil.
hey people,
I found this rather odd spider on my trampoline the other day and i was wondering is anyone could tell me a bit about it...
It was about 6mm long and had a bright green abdomen
Chuncky orange and yellow legs
Thanks,
Luke
Is the Araniella opisthographa/Arianella Cucurbitina native to the UK?
Thanks,
Luke
Hi Luke
If you go to the website of the British Arachnological Society, you can check the distribution of all British spiders. It has the dates reported as being in the UK,it's distribution in the UK and it's worldwide distribution. You'll see from the website that both spiders are on the British list. It's a great reference tool. http://www.britishspiders.org.uk/html/ba...=recording
Do as you would be done by. Do as you would be did. A burning pot is mighty hot, so don't sit on the lid.
