Nice photo, thanks for posting! Swans are magnificent birds. There was a really interesting fact about them on QI last night but it's slipped my mind - I'll try and remember it
Gret photo and great program! An interesting fact about swans is that not all swans are owned by the crown - only mute swans. And I believe they can be eaten only by royalty and certain members of parliment (not sure about this one?) on a certain day in July. If QI is to be believed!
I would imagine Her Majesty does not indulge in much swan eating, either, as swans are reputed to be not especially tasty unless grain fed for about four months beforehand (they taste strongly of fish otherwise), and apparently are a bit tough as well!
She'd probably have trouble catching one too as they can be quite vicious from my experience. I was only about 12 years old when I was chased by a swan. It actually flew over head and did a beak dive. Funny looking back on it but quite scary at the time!

! Considering how threatening crows can be when they swoop down, I would be terrified if a swan were to do something like that. Swans are HUGE birds.
I remember as a child we went out into a river on a small rowing boat, and came across a swan with her offspring. As we got closer to pass by her, she got very aggressive and started hissing and coiling her neck. Needless to say we turned around pretty quickly! I definitely wouldn't want to mess with a swan!
