Sale of Ancient Woodland for bypass and housing by the FC
I always assumed the Forestry Commission was in place to protect our woodland. However it seems as soon as a developer flashes a large sum of money in front of their eyes, their role becomes effectively joint developer.
They are planning to sell (or may have done so already) some ancient wood land in Bourne, Lincolnshire for a bypass in order that local developer, Larkfleet homes, can in-fill with thousands of homes covering meadow land. The Friends of Bourne Wood are leading a campaign against this. There is already a 10 Downing St e-petition:
Petition to: prevent the release of Ancient Woodland for sale by the Forestry Commission thus allowing developers Larkfleet Homes to build an unwanted western route relief road, severing the special relationship Bourne has with its woodland.

thanks for telling us about that peter, i hate to see this sort of thing happening and can't believe that the forestry commision would do such a thing. I have signed...

It is ridiculous. Can't the developers leave anything alone? Perhaps the answer is that we all club together to buy up the woodland around the UK. I saw a really interesting website the other day that helped people get together into woodland communities to bauy a wood together. I don't know if anyone has taken advantage of what they offer? I'm tempted but I feel nervous too. I supose it is only £5,000?!
The web address is http://www.ancientwoodland.com
If anyone knows anything about them let me know please.
