River Cottage: Gone Fishing

A new 3-part 'River Cottage' series starts on Thursday 8/11 (8pm C4), during which Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall states the case for sustainable fishing, coming up with alternative suggestions for the less popular (and less well-known) fish that we could/should be eating. I am a huge fan of Hugh (right from the Escape to River Cottage days) and will be looking forward to this series. As someone who cares passionately about the sourcing, production, welfare and preparation of his food I think that it will be well-worth tuning into.

For those who haven't yet caught up with the River Cottage approach to food and self-sufficiency, the following website should be of interest:

Errrr, does this mean eating carp?

I am still amazed at the number of magazines devoted solely to carp fishing that we found on our last visit.

At least I have a clear conscience regarding fish - I dislike most fish except trout and occasionally mackerel.

Thanks for posting the website. I have often thought there must be lots of fish that taste good that aren't eaten much. We have to be careful that the problem isn't just transferred to a different species, but setting up sustainable fishing it the definite answer in the long run.
