Richard Bransons Prize

According to the BBC website Richard Branson has put a $25 million dollar prize for the first person to come up with a solution to the increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere.

Does anyone think this is really going to help? It's a nice gesture, but I would like to think that scientists would already be pursuing the solution to global warming because they know it would save the world. Does it say something about our society that Branson feels he has to try and bribe scientists to save the planet.

RE: Richard Bransons Prize

Scientists are already working on the CO2 problem and have been doing so for a long time, but that dosen't mean all of them have. Branson's reward will hopefully bring more of them into the area and provide a greater incentive for the individual to work on a solution.

I think you have a valid point that the reward does say something negative about our society but unfortunately that's is what the world is like at the moment. I don't really care too much if the person who finds the solution only did it for the money, as long as it works!

I find it very funny that Richard Branson puts up this reward while his airline pumps CO2 into the atmosphere.

In all seriousness though, I don't really think that "knee-jerk" reactions are the right way to go, so I welcome rewards like this. I would imagine the prize for finding a solution to global warming would receive rewards much greater than this though both monetary and scientific.

If someone does not find a solution soon, I would sadly suspect there won't be enough of Earth left to enjoy it.
