Being from Surrey too, it doesn't seem like I'll ever see any wild red squirrels around the house either which is very sad. I don't think I'd mind a red squirrel stealing from the bird feeder so much!

I believe they were naively introduced a couple of hundred years ago without any thought to how it could affect the environment and other species, just because it was a "trendy" thing to do.
