Cream teas have that effect on my clothes.
.......Plain scones, strawberry preserve...and only clotted cream you can stand your teaspoon up in from the west country.....nothing else will do!

It's got to be fruit scones for me and don't forget the butter. I hope you're not one of those heathens that puts the cream on first then the jam on top. The true cream tea has a fruit scone, butter, strawberry jam, THEN the clotted cream on top about an inch thick. Yummy.

Won't work - I would just have twice as much cream and jam
Now, about those snakes........

RE The Adder
Just came across this thread.
The photo is of a female adder (as 1 previous poster noted) Easily identified by it's black with brown/fawn stripes - a male is black with silvery/grey strips.
As for being dangerous they are generally 'shrinking violets' and you would have to get very, very near and do something silly to really upset one enough to get it to bite you. In addition you normally get plenty of warning as it coils up into a defensive position as it turns to face you.
I have a friend who was bitten by one on the leg whilst scraping vegetation out of the way with his foot whilst we were repairing a wall on the moors - he was wearing shorts. He didn't even notice it until later in the afternoon his leg started to hurt and swell up a bit. In the pub that evening still wearing shorts, he mentioned it to the local doc, who pointed out that the two 'scratches' near his ankle were probably where the fangs went in! Assured that real ale does not make things worse he had another round and later went home, watched TV and was back at work the next day his leg still a little swollen and tender.
If you are bitten by an Adder in the UK you are not generally given anti-venom. Probably you'll be given Anti-histamines to prevent any allergic reaction to the bite - the same stuff you'll get for allergies to a wide range of other maladies such as hay fever or wasp bites.
