Sad news today Nutkins, Skippy's rabbit had to be put down. He was the Opal coloured one on the pets gallery. We were not sure how old he was but we took the sad decision as his back legs had gone.Icon_sad

I am sorry to hear that. It's always difficult to decide when it's time for those friends to be allowed to go. I think most of us here have had to make those difficult decisions, and no matter what, it's so hard.

Very sorry to hear about Nutkins Tibbar, it's always difficult to make that decision but I'm sure you did the right thing.

RE: Pets

Well onwards & upwards we are now looking for a replacement as we cannot leave the accomodation without a tenant, but got turned down yesterday by a rabbit rescue who had a giant . Firstly because the buck had been reserved & secondly they do not want to rehome a single rabbit outside. They only want to rehome pairs outside but it would not fit into our circumstances & may cause fights.
So if sunshine fancies a house rabbit there may be more about than you think as some are in rescue centres up & down the ocuntry.
Thanks for the thoughts.
P.S another pic for the pet gallery in the future

RE: Pets

It is about time I put up a photo of some of my pets, so here is one of my tortoiseshell Manx, Anniebear:

That little stump of a tail is all she has.

RE: Pets

Thanks for posting the picture kingfisher, that is a gorgeous cat you have.

Good luck with filling the accommadation Tibbar. I don't know much about rabbits, but why wouldn't the centre want to rehome a single rabbit outside?

RE: Pets

Well Done Kingfisher , WE love pic of AnnieBear. Skippy used to have 4 cats . She is a beauty as we say.
Was she born with a stump of a tail? In Isle of Man the Manx cat does not have a tail or just sometimes they have just a little stump.
Xeract rabbit accomodation is in the process of being filled as I made contact with a RSPCA official yesterday & she said she would help us as she particularly likes British Giants also. If not successful we will 'rescue' one from a breeder.
I wasn't very complimentary I'm afraid about the other woman & she didn't understand why they should pass up a good home. The reason for it is, a lot of people put them outside & then they don't get much company & rabbits are social creatures. I can understand that also but ours can at least see each other through the weldmesh. The two girls did live together but then started fighting all of a sudden so had to be separated so it is not foolproof.

RE: Pets

I am glad to see that Anniebear is appreciated Icon_smile . She actually has a full length tail, but it is so kinked that it is only about three inches long. She is definitely a Manx though, hoppy gait and all.

This is the cat I rescued from the local shelter only one day before she was to be put down Icon_sad . The staff were so happy she was being rehomed that they gave us a cheer!

Just one reason why I am happy to see that your rabbit accomodations are again to be put to good use, tibbar.

RE: Pets

We have been kicked back by a rescue centre for rabbits because
(a) we wanted a single buck
(b) we had a couple of un-neutered bucks
(c ) We would not conform to their every whim
(d) We would not pay £70/$140.83 for a rabbit

All we offered was a loving home , with food, shelter, water. A good head scrub every day, & lots of love!!! so we went to a breeder in the end because of the 'holy than thou attitude.
We want to introduce to you 'Merlin'.
He is a blue Beveren 12 weeks old . I have had them before but Skip has only seen pics of them. He fell in love at the first glimpse of him. He is settling in well & is a right character.
Introducing 'Merlin' who fills the gap left by 'Nutkins'
CUTE isn't he???

Skip wants to say it is not a camera trick he actually is 'lilac' in colour.......

RE: Pets

It's a shame about the rabbit rescue centre not wishing to let you re-home a rabbit, but...

Merlin is quite the handsome fellow. I have never heard of Beverans before, I had to go look them up. They appear to be quite rare, at least in the US.

Kingfisher - Beverens are from Belgium & come in quite a few different colours. I have had black, blue , brown ,opal & a white which had china blue eyes. There is an orange colour which is the fiirst colour I ever saw but I have never had one. As you can tell I like rabbits & if you haven't noticed 'tibbar' is rabbit spelt backwards.

RE: Pets

Does this mean you have 41 rabbits, or is the '14' for another reason?

You will be pleased to know that I have gotten some photos of a jackrabbit, then. I think they have turned out reasonably well, but I won't be able to know for certain until my return home.
