Perseid meteor shower

There should be a brilliant meteor display this weekend if the weather stays clear. The annual Perseid meteor shower starts on Saturday and at its peak on Sunday night you could see up to 100 meteors an hour. If you look to the North East you should be able to see the shower wherever you are.

I love meteor showers because it is so easy to go out and watch, you don't have to worry about telescopes or even binos. Fingers crossed that the weather stays clear! It is actually forecast to rain on Sunday which is bad news, lets hope they got it wrong.

I believe that here we will have clear skies for the event. We will be travelling to Eastern Washington (where there is little light interference where we plan to go) and I am hoping to get some very clear views. I might even try some photography, but I'm not promising anything.

The skies look good for tonight, I've heard the best time will be tommorrow evening between 8-11 pm. I might try some photography too, maybe a long exposure would have the best chance of catching them?

The sky look quite clear at the moment. Now all I have to do is to try not to forget all about it. I've seen a meteor shower once before and it was pretty spectacular, so I'm hoping that visibility (and my memory) remains good.

Clear skies here at the moment too, very exciting! I'm going to go out around 10ish and see if I can see any then. This is a reminder to you Timberwolf as well if you're reading! Icon_biggrin

RE: Perseid meteor shower

Did anyone manage to see anything? I went out just before 11pm with my family and saw a few, except I kept missing them because I was looking the other way! Hope others were more successful

RE: Perseid meteor shower

I remembered Icon_smile. However, I only saw a few very brief ones, despite a clear sky. I might have missed some, however, because I kept getting distracted by the number of aircraft I could see crossing the sky (mind you... where else would they be Icon_redface). I'm also sure that I spotted a satellite - it was too big for a star and too stationary to be another aircraft.

RE: Perseid meteor shower

I saw a few, I went to bed around 11:30 so I think I missed the best bit which came in the early morning, but I had to be up early so staying up wasn't an option.

RE: Perseid meteor shower

I nodded off fairly early, but did get up early enough to see a few here and there.

RE: Perseid meteor shower

On the news there were people who were sitting in their garden from the late afternoon onwards, I applaud their dedication but at that time it is much too light to see them anyway! Icon_biggrin
