This year I seem to have more tadpoles than ever in the small pond in the back garden. I have tadpoles and frogs every year, but this year wherever you look in the pond you can see a large number of tadpoles swimming about.

What could have caused this exponential increase in tadpole numbers? Was it just that I now have a larger population of frogs, or is there something more subtle at work?

I'm not concerned at all about this because I enjoy seeing pond teeming with life in the back garden.

Frogs and toads are considered good indicators of environmental conditions, so the fact that you have any at all shows that your environment is not horribly polluted.

Do you know what species the tadpole are?

I believe them to be of the Common frog (Rana temporaria) species. I'm pleased that the large amount of tadpoles represents a clean environment. My garden is my pride and joy, especially the pond.
