The amphibians, mostly frogs got in even though the pond was netted to keep those pesky herons out, but we have never had many problems before. The result was to treat the pond generally for flukes etc & only 4 survived out of 10.
All that really distressed us so in august we have a koi pond specialist coming to rebuild the pond & increase its size. Hopefully because it will be built quite a way above ground the amphibians will not be able to get in.
Don't get me wrong I love frogs & newts but also koi. I wouldn't mind building a smaller wildlife pond at the back of the garden & hopefully that will keep them happy & keep the newts in the vicinity.
