RE: New Springwatch

It was worthwhile watching Springwatch this evening for the Pine Martin item alone. I've never heard of them before but I want one!!

I am looking forward to the new series and i think a change of location will be a good thing.
I know the old one was a lovely place but i think it will be interesting to see somewhere different and i think Norfolk is the perfect choice.so many great bird reserves there such as snettisham ,titchwell, and pensthorpe is a lovely place.

I completely agree that Norfolk is a wonderful place to have it. I'm not on the message boards, when I've looked at them in the past they have been very aggressive towards the presenters and sometimes each other! Perhaps it will be different this time. I think they need some better moderation on there if people are going to be like that. As for the actual show, I missed it again! Can't believe it!

I think so far this series has been the best so far with so much variety and seeing some of the more unusual birds ,the treecreepers were great.
I am on the message board Bill ,but i agree with you there is too much critising the presenters on there

RE: New Springwatch

I watched the episode on Cattle Egrets last night - looks as if you have a lovely area to work in Paul. Gordon Buchanan must have one of the best jobs around. I'm not so sure about Bill Oddie's comments re the Glossy Ibis though. The White Ibis has taken over in many parts of Sydney, is quite aggressive and you can't have a picnic in peace for them scavenging. They have become a real pest in Taronga Zoo, the Botanical Gardens etc. What does everyone else think about it and does anyone know if the Glossy Ibis is likely to have the same tendancies??

RE: New Springwatch

I've been enjoying Springwatch very much - especially seeing the footage of the Scottish wildcat, which was great, and I think Gordan Buchanan joining various people around the country as they watch wildlife 'in their patch' is a great idea.

The Cattle Egrets slot last night was very interesting - I hadn't even realised they were here, let alone in large'ish numbers.

They've all gone now! Last seen were 23 birds flying east on 9th May. So no breeders this year. Just been to the Dominican Republic where there were 1000's of Cattle Egrets!

I've heard Bill talking from his garden once before and it was really interesting - am looking forward to his special tomorrow too.
