RE: New Springwatch

Well if anyone is interested in what we're all going to see when SpringWatch starts then here's the link to BBC Norfolk with the information:

Why's that? He definitaly knows what he is talking about. I was a member of the AutumnWatch forum, and if anybody mentioned the words "Bill Oddie", everyone would slag him off.

He is a great person with a huge knowledge of wildlife I think.

I just can't stand his clowning and fatuous comment, plus his constantly trying to upstage Kate Humble and preventing her from finishing what she starts off saying. He used to be very good at one time, but now just wants to grab the limelight.

Did you know that he and Leica have parted company? They got fed up with him too!

It should be very interesting that they've moved place. I'm not sure why they did it, perhaps just wanted a change. It hopefully means we'll get some completely new things.

Hi riana, they had to leave fishleigh estate because the owners have put it up for sale. Its a shame because it was a wonderful place and no where will replace it in my opinion but it will be interesting to see what they have for us this year in norfolk and a change can often be a good thing Icon_smile

RE: New Springwatch

Love him or loathe him, Bill Oddie has done more to raise the public profile of birding than any other celebrity. Dont forget, he was a birder before he became famous. He is also a comedian by trade so his injections of humour are probably second nature to him. He does sometimes talk over Humble but to be fair, he is a wildlife presenter and has been a birder all his life, so he knows what he is talking about generally. As far as i am aware, Kate has no background in wildlife? You can tell she is talking from the screen in front of the camera. Its painful to watch sometimes, good job she's good looking!

I know a number of birders who would disagree with you, one of whom I used to work with and who had a run in with him over a bird which BO wrongly identified and then was extremely rude to my ex colleague who put him right.

I too enjoyed him at first, but he's just got out of hand now.

I did say 'generally'. No one's perfect. Who would you replace him with?

It is a shame that they've had to move, but sometimes change can be a good thing. You don't want it to get stale, but I would imagine it might take a few series to get up to the standards of the previous series.

So does anyone know when the new series actually starts? Or has it started already?

RE: New Springwatch

I am looking forward to the new series and i think a change of location will be a good thing.
I know the old one was a lovely place but i think it will be interesting to see somewhere different and i think Norfolk is the perfect choice.
so many great bird reserves there such as snettisham ,titchwell, and pensthorpe is a lovely place.
I am on the notice board too,yes as celticsparrow, just hope they keep the discussions to the wildlife and not constantly critising the presenters
