March- Waterfowl
***IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO SUBSRIBE TO THIS THREAD, SO YOU CAN EASILY SEE OTHER PEOPLE'S ENTRIES***
A member named Riana and I have come up with the idea of posting a Photo of the Month Competition in this website.
We have been given the thumbs up from Xeract, the Wildlifeuk.net administrator to post such a competition.
The deadline for the competition will be on the final week of each month, so during the final week we can decide the winner.
Unfortunately the winner will not recieve any prizes, because it is just a bit of fun.
The winner will be informed through e-mail/personal message. The winner will also be included in a post on the thread.
On your thread, can you please give a name for your image, and if possible, include photogrpahy information, such as ISO, shutter speed etc. A new thread will be created for each month, so please be sure to enter in the right one!
If you have any further questions, then please contact me or Riana by personal message, and we will try our best to answer your question.
!!!!!THE COMPETITION DEADLINE FOR THIS MONTH IS 24/3/2008!!!!!!
The Categories for the year are:
January - Birds in Flight
February - Birds of Prey
March - Waterfowl (e.g ducks, swan geese etc)
April - (my birthday!) Insects
May - Landscape
June - Sunrise/sunsets
July - Snakes
August - Mammals
September - Aquatic Wildlife
October - Sea Birds
November - Close Ups
December - Wildlife in Frosty Conditions
Good luck to anyone who enters!!

OK then, I will get us started. The image is called, "Simply Swan" and I took it in one of the many bodies of water at Marsh Farm in Essex.

Ian Rose, are you a professional photographer, or, like me is it just a hobby? You don't half take some good photographs!

I use a Canon Digital Rebel (300D) and usually, a Sigma 170-500 lens. The Grebe was on a Canon 100-300 lens.

RE: Photo of the Month Competition - March- Waterfowl
Ok cool thanks. I am an enthusiastic amateur, so what do you think would be a good starting DSLR for me?
I have had a conventional film SLR in the past, and i have a Fuji Finepix S6500fd digital camera at the moment.
I am looking at the Canon EOS 400D or maybee the Nikon D40x. Any ideas?

RE: Photo of the Month Competition - March- Waterfowl
This is one of the only 'waterfowl' shots i have! I get that many photos of Ducks, Geese and Swans sent to me for my website, i haven't bothered to take any of my own! Must try harder!

I would go for the Canon Jamie, but then as a Canon user, I am slightly biased :-)
