Hot spring has affected wildlife

It's probably not that much of a surprise to most of us, but the first results of springwatch seem to show that wildlife has been emerging early this year becuase of the warm spring.

The two main pieces of evidence were frogspawn being spotted 2 weeks earlier than average and peacock butterflies being spotted a whole month before they usually are.

The main thing worrying environmentalists is that he change has been so rapid.

I'm not too worried about this in isolation, as I think that one hot year will happen every now and then. What will be worrying is if we see this trend continuing for the next three or four years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the averages have been getting earlier and earlier for the last few years now. I remember hearing that 2006 was the earliest year on record, so if this year is even earlier than that then maybe we should be worried now.

It definitely has been hotter early this spring than any other year. Stange thing is we're approaching June now and its raining, cold and miserable. It's almost as if we've had our summer already, although Im not sure what England's expecting for July and August.

I certainly hope not! Icon_biggrin

The weather has been very strange, pouring with rain and cold yesterday (which typically was the bank holiday) and sunny and warm today. Very hard to predict.
