Hello from the frozen north(east)
Hi everyone, just a quick hello from me. Ive already trried this twice and it failed to send the message, oh well....
Anyway, I'm a 40 year old father of two who used to do a lot of bird watching(hated being called a twitcher tho), but since we had the kids I havent had much time to get out and about, hopefully that will change soon!
Tho I used to do a lot of birding I would call myself a general naturalist enjoying everything to be found out there with a particular interest in plants and spiders(I have 5 Tarantulas at home), in fact to be honest I'm plant obsessed, and have quite a few Aloes and simialr plants at home.
Anyway our gas is off at the moment and its freezing out so I'm geting myself a coffee.
Looking forward to meeting you all,
Larry

Hello GreenLarry, welcome to the forums! I know exactly how you feel with not having the time to get out as much as I would like, but I definitely make the most of the small amounts of spare time I do have now!
It's freezing here too, just turned the heating on!

Hi riana, the problem with our gas is that they are doing maintenance work in the sterrt with big holes everywhere so we everyone has no gas, with no idea when its being turned on again!
(For some reason I cant post messages from my phone which is what I normally use to go online, but it tells me the message is missing,weird-I'm on the PC today which is a rare thing these days!)

Hello GreenLarry, I hope you will be warmer soon . What tarantulas do you keep? You will have to be our resident expert on spiders now . My father used to drag us outdoors whether we liked it or not--it was either that or visiting museums. I like to think it did me a world of good, even if I didn't necessarily appreciate it at the time...
What is the rarest bird you have seen? Was your bird watching confined to the UK?

Well, I have 5 in total, an adult Mexican Red Knee that I recently handled, a super fast Trinidad Chevron which lives in trees in the wild(arboreal), a young Chile rose, which was my first T bought in August 06, a young Curlyhair which I raised from a tiny baby I got for free and a dwarf species from an island off Vietnam, also free.
I'd post pics on here but not sure other members would appreciate them!
As for birds, well I'm not sure what my rarest is, I'm not really interersted in getting rare birds to be honest and I've never been abroad. The most exciting bird for me tho has to be the gannets i saw for the first time at Scarborough a couple of years ago.

RE: Hello from the frozen north(east)
There's a pets thread lurking in here somewhere, and I know I would like to see them , I have three snakes, though, so I'm a bit eccentric.
Rare is relative. To me, 'rare' is something that does not normally occur in my area. For you, a Bald Eagle would be rare. For me, well, there are hundreds of them less than 60 miles away, and a pair live around a mile down the road!
Gannets would be rare for me to see here, as they are birds of the Eastern Seaboard of the US. I saw my first, and only, gannets on a trip to Maine a few years ago.

I was born in Swinton, Lancashire, and return as often as I can. Seeing wildlife is always one of the things I enjoy most. I probably enjoy the wildlife viewing as much or more than the genealogy I'm always working on. My father taught me a lot about animals and birds in the UK, he was always roaming around on Chat Moss as a lad.

Yes the gas is back on at last. Turns out ours didn't need turning off as we don't have a combi boiler but the workmen didn't bother to ask!

Howdy GreenLarry, welcome aboard. Glad to hear that the heating's back even if you didn't have to do without it in the first place
