Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Is anyone else a Harry Potter fan? If you are then I'm sure you already have the last book by now, I got mine this morning.
I never thought I would like the books because I thought the films were awful, but after reading the first one a couple of years ago I was hooked and have read every book now. I've started the new one today and hope to finish it fairly soon so there is no chance of the ending being spoiled!

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
You know, years ago I would probably have been a big fan, but listening to my work mates has soured me on the books. It's a bit like listening to them gurgle over American Idol...ugh.
I probably should read them, though...

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I hold my hands up !!! Never read them. Reason is that I do not read fiction. I could count on one hand the number of fiction books that I have read.I have seen the films though & thoroughly enjoyed them & can understand the allure of the books. I think they definately contribute to young people reading more. Except for my boys as they take after me unfortunately.
I like to read factual books. Give me a Guiness book of records anyday.
Sounds weird typing it down like that.
I particularly like victorian crime, family history, nature, real-life , the odd biography & my latest book is about Harold Shipman. Not that I like him obviously, but the psychology behind him & his crimes which devasted communities in the North West.
My work colleagues have always joked (I hope) that I have 1001 useless facts but I always have the last laugh when they come in useful to help them out!!!
Funnily enough Skippy reads a lot of fiction & knows lots of facts, always coming up with the 1002nd or is it just that he fills in my gaps.....

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I'm looking forward to reading it. My wife picked up our copy yesterday (Saturday) morning, and is now reading it, so I have to wait until she's finished.

Not my sort of thing I'm afraid. In my opinion, never has so much fuss been made by so many over so little. However, for those that are looking forward to it, I hope that it's all that you anticipate it to be .

The hype has been a bit too much over this last book but I am loving it so far. I won't give away any secrets (I'm only about a third in anyway) but I will say that at least this far it lives up to the standards of the other books.
Has your wife finished it yet wild canon? Hopefully she's a quicker reader than me!
Tibbar, you sound like you would be a great person to have on your team in a pub quiz!

Not yet, but she's a very fast reader, so I shouldn't have to wait too long. She says it's a very good read.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have to smile to myself when 'critics' and other authors denigrate J K Rowlings books. I've enjoyed them all, okay they may not be Shakespeare, but I've never understood why anyone would want to read Shakespeare anyway - utterly booooooring! There is a great deal of snobbery about books, and obvious jealousy too from those who have failed to be as successful as J K.

A lot of other writers do seem to look down on the HP books, and they aren't for everyone. But the truth is millions of people of all age ranges have read the books and enjoyed them, they are a great success.
I can't put the new one down, I'm trying to limit myself to make it last longer

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Just started reading it this morning, but as I'm desperately trying to read "Bryophyte Biology" before I go on a course next week, it's going to take me a while to finish it. I'm a slow reader anyway, tending to digest every word and nuance.

It may take you a while to read HP, but I would bet you good money that 'Bryophyte Biology' will take longer. Muuucchhh longer . Probably not nearly as entertaining, either, even if more useful.

I have just finished my copy, thoroughly enjoyed every page! It's a shame it has come to an end, I'm not a big fan of the films, but at least it was not an anti-climax.

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I have just sent a registered article to the UK from a devoted fan--the article was endorsed "great idea for continuing the series--don't stop!". It was addressed to Ms. Rowling...

RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I’m a fan of Harry Potter too; I have all the films found in this series. I have even bought the latest book of Harry Potter…..i have already read the book…do you want me to relate it? I have made a gallery of my own where I have kept all the pictures of Harry Potter’s heroes. Some other time I’ll show you…..i want to make a slide show of all the photos first. i have all my photos uploaded over an image hosting site; http://www.2and2.net. I’ll select all the beautiful photos and then I’ll attach the address of the slide show.
