Glass Bottom Boats
Has anyone ever been on a glass bottomed boat and actually any water life?
Both times I've been on one has been in Cornwall and they were very disappointing. The boat just had a small panel of glass that everyone crouded round, and the tall underwater plants completely oscured any iew of whatever might have been down there.
I'm sure that I probably just had bad experiences because Ive heard fantastic stories. Perhaps Cornwall isn't the right pace to go on one either.

I've been in one in Hawaii--very exciting! I also took a ride in a submarine whilst in Hawaii and that was even more fun. My husband and I got to view green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), and many varieties of tropical marine fish.
So perhaps it was just Cornwall .

I think it is just Cornwall! I went on one in Pool last year and it was terrible. The most exciting thing we saw was a single crab on the way back.
Earlier in the week I saw a local seal in Pool harbour which was much more interesting. I had no idea tha seals lived around that area.

I went on a glass bottom boat in the Bahamas. It was pretty cool, lots of fish and you could see the coral really well. I prefer scuba diving though. You can explore more and see what creatures are in all the little cracks and crevices.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Just wear plenty of wetsuits ! There are many people who dive in Puget Sound and enjoy the sport immensely.

We went on one in Lanzarote last year & I spent all my time sitting in one position holding on for grim death. ( I did have a broken foot though & it was in plaster) I didn't see anything but the boys & husband did. Even if I hadn't a broken foot I would still have been in the same position as I do not like the sea!!

No ocean cruises for you, eh? I've gone on two cruises now, and enjoyed them immensely. Much more peaceful than flying. Er, if you don't get seasick, that is . Our trip to Bermuda last September had some large waves due to a far off hurricane.

I would recommend at least one cruise per lifetime!
I've sailed the Inside Passage to Alaska, and New York-Bermuda-New York. Absolutely brilliant.

I have been on one when I was on holiday in Cyprus. The coral was right under the boat, then all of a sudden it dropped, and there was nothing but blue under the boat!
It was amazing. We also saw a ship wreck as well, and also some sea sponges. It was cool!

Now that you mention it, I should add that I have been in a submarine off the coast of Oahu, in Hawaii. Ship wreck, sea turtles, sharks, all manner of exotic fish. That was lovely! I would love to do that again.

Long awaited reply to Kingfisher .........sorry........... In 1996 I went on a large ship to Denmark & my work collegue said I would be OK as long as it wasn't a roll-on , roll-off ferry which of course it was. This as just after the Zeebrugge ferry disaster so you can imagine what I thought...
ships I am not too bad on small boats utterly useless.....

RE: Glass Bottom Boats
Yes I went on the 'famous' glass bottomed boat at Kyle of Lockalsh in Scotland - it featured on the BBC2 programme 'Nature's Calendar'. We didn't see much wildlife - a few crabs, a sea urchin & plenty of seaweed. But the boat was great & the captain of the boat knew everything - we sailed across the Sound of Sleat, in between Scotland & Skye & I saw an otter! Plus Grey Seals - this was last October - I bought the mug to proove it! lol You walked down a spiral staircase into the bottom & there were 2 long rows of benches on either side & the bottom sides were in glass so you could look out - I thought the glass bottomed was actually a glass floor - but I was wrong & this was much better! A window looking out into a green, murky underwater world - they have seen dolphins in the past!

Glad you had a good time on one, it makes such a difference having a knowledgable and interesting captain on board. Seeing dolphins would be quite special!
