Garden Bird Ringing

Been confined to the house with a nasty sickness bug for the last two days, so managed to do a bit of ringing in my garden.
Caught and ringed: Chaffinch (male and 2 females), Great Tit (male), Blue Tit (1 male and 3 females) and a Dunnock! Hopefully the rain will hold off so i can do a few more tomorrow.

Sorry to hear you've been ill. How do you catch the birds? You've managed to get quite a few in two days!

That was just in one day. I have a 30ft mist net set up at a feeding station in my garden. Just put it up again now, so see what i get. Its a bit breezy here today though.

What birds do you usually get on an average day in your garden?

Iv always been interested in bird ringing, is there some form of training and courses you have to attend?

Yes. If you contact the BTO they will let you know who your local trainer is. Then you can arrange to go out with them and see if you like it. If you do, you can then apply for your training permit (T permit). It can then take a while to get your 'C' Permit so that you can ring on your own. Click on the BTO link, it will take you to their ringing page.

Oh good. I would love to hear also if any of the birds you have ringed have ever returned to your garden or not.

RE: Garden Bird Ringing

Have done some bird ringing in the past. Very rewarding and hugely satisfying. Not to mention vastly important. Must get back into it again.
