I took this photo earlier today, the frog let me get right up close after a few attempts. I startled it twice, but it came back after about 5 minutes both times. Anyone else have any frog photos to share?
I once picked one up by accident in the garden where it was hidding amongst some weeds I was cutting back. I never realised that frogs squeal when surprised . I don't know who was was more shocked, as I had no idea I'd picked it up amongst a handful of cuttings. I was even more surprised as there is no water anywhere nearby and it was probably the last thing I expected to come across.
Thanks everyone. I think I would be fairly surprised if I picked up some weeds and found myself holding a frog too! I can't imagine a frog squealing either, must be quite a strange noise...
I quite like frogs & toads. They are so cute....I used to collect frog spawn when I was a kid (8yrs) & make a little wildlife pond in my section of mothers garden. Only thing was that every year all these frogs used to come back to were they were hatched & get into her koi pond. When we had the annual clean up round about Easter we pulled out bucketfuls of them.
Thanks, that photo was taken with a really old school digital camera, unfortunatley it got nicked and my new one is not half as good. Will have to keep an eye out for another one.
I used to do the same thing - make wildlife gardens when I was a kid, using the paddling pool as a pond and put loads of tadpoles in there.
As a child we used to collect frogspawn and when the frogs had begun too develop legs and feet let them go in the local river. It was always enjoyable, but quite sad letting them go though!
We used to exactly the same thing Xeract as children, although we used to release the frogs in a local lake rather than a river. It was a lot of fun and it is always interesting to see the tadpole slowly transform into something resembling an adult frog, another example of the wonders of nautre. I always enjoyed letting them go though, it was the best part seeing them swim away to start their lives as adult frogs.
Two years ago I lived in one room in a shared house with my boyfriend and two guinea pigs, complete squallor, but I still managed to have an aquarium of tadpoles and watched them grow legs before letting them go in the allotment pond. I find frogs fascinating!
Frogs are definitely fascinating, they get a bad reputation because of their supposed "sliminess" but really they aren't like that at all! Frog aquariums sound like a lot of fun and also a great teaching tool, I think kids could learn a lot about nature and how things grow and change from them.
