A friend sent me these photos of frogs. They're great photos, and I don't think I've ever seen a red frog before.

I have never really heard of red frogs! Good pictures. Compliments to your friend!

Alas I am red-green colour blind and have to take your word for it.
This makes lots of wildlife ID more difficult - particularly birds with different leg colours.

I can see red and green but when they in small amounts or together I have problems. I have seen red and even bright orange frogs (don't expect they last long!).

Going back to the thread on moving frogspawn, I think the actual spawn can spread a disease known as red-leg - nasty as it brings out the frogs in sores and often kills large numbers.

Great photos! I've never seen a red frog either, are they quite common? I would think that a red frog wouldn't last too long either....

Any idea why that frog is red? Is it just a colour mutation of the same species? I've heard you can get different colour frogs all of the same species but never seen a red one before.

He also said that he hadn't seen a red frog in the area before. According to the BBC website, occasionally completely red frogs are found in Scotland, but this photo was taken on the Surrey/Sussex border!

my friend had a few red frogs last year, well they were red underneath and she said she had had them for years. will have to nip round and see if she still has them and maybe take some pics

I'm in Sussex, and we get occasional red frogs in our garden pond. they seem healthy enough. Most of our spawn is red as well!
