Feeding frogspawn
What do tadpoles feed off? Is there anything you can put in the water that will help them feed?
I suppose that they feed off any plant life in the the water, maybe algae that is floating in the water. does this mean that the greener the water is, the better it is for the tadpoles?

RE: Feeding frogspawn
When the tadpoles first hatch, they do indeed feed initially on algae, and also on decaying vegetable matter. So, yes, to a certain extent the greener the water the better it could be. However, as the tadpoles metamorphose, they require some animal matter, such as tiny insects.
If you don't have any algae (almost impossible in an outside pond ), then you could offer boiled lettuce.

You should also make sure they have some area of solid land if you are planning on raising them in a tank, for when they grow legs. WHen they get too big it is best to release them into a river or nearby pond.

Yes, a flat rock in the water where they can 'pull out' is a vital necessity.
It's fantastic to watch tadpoles transform into frogs.

Duckweed may be a good option, grows like anything though!
