Favourite Season/Time of Year
I have always loved Autumn, with its fantastic colours, cool days and soft light. After the heat of summer (usually), I love the freshness of the early morning air, the mists giving an other-worldly feel to the woods and the feel that the year is beginning its wind down towards winter - like approaching the end of term at school. Somehow the countryside seems more alive with activity and the forest has a rich earthy smell. There are the colourful berries and mushrooms and local apple day celebrations. It is also the season of the deer rutts, which I rate as one of nature's great spectacles. As well as announcing the end of summer, it is also a season filled with hope for the future as preparations are made for the spring to come (Oct 31 was the end of pre-Christian Celtic year).

I have a very British tendancy of thinking the grass is always greener on the other side when it comes to seasons. In the summer I quickly get too hot and long for rain, and in the winter I can't wait for the sunshine to start!
My favourite is definitely spring though, the thought of summer being on its way and watching the trees start to turn green again is uplifting.

Oh, I like autumn (or Fall, as it's known in the US). A chill in the air, the expectation that soon things will be quiet. Woodsy smells, the county fairs.

I love summer but I think autumn too , although I am not keen on the dark nights & the rain. Do you think what time of year you were born has any influence on your choice or is it just random?

I was born in the summer and Spring and Summer are my favourite months. Although Autumn is very pretty it is also very depressing knowing that you will not see your home in the light for a few months when at work. My chickens are going to be very upset i think not being alowed to roam the garden in the evening!

RE: Favourite Season/Time of Year
I was born in summer but have always really looked forward to autumn. Orange is my favourite colour but whether that's because I love autumn or visa-versa, I couldn't say.
Commuting and working in London has always meant that I have hated winter, getting up in the dark and coming home after dark, hoping that the trains are going to run on time (if at all!), never having the right clothing to cope with both the cold of outdoors and the heating of the trains/office. Now that I have the opportunity to work locally outdoors, I will be interested to see whether being more 'in-tune' with the seasons enables me to have a greater appreciation of what winter has to offer. For this reason I find that I'm actually looking forward to this winter .

Leaving and coming home in the dark would be terrible for five days a weeks, I feel for people who have to do it and I hope that I don't have to for too long! I do like winter, and I find that all the seasons have something I enjoy. My favourite has to be summer though, maybe not this years, but I like it when you can rely (to a certain extent) on the next day being sunny and you can plan walks, picnics, etc.
My favourite thing about winter though is a real blanket of snow, it gives a whole new feel to the countryside even if you have lived in an area for years.

I know just what you both mean Xeract and Timberwolf, in my working life I have been (in my mind ) lucky to have been outside and seen many sunrises and sunsets through all of the seasons. I like all of them, but if pushed my favorite would have to be Spring. I love the change in the wildlife as they seem to have new vigor (may be an obvious statement but it moves me greatly each year ) Must be down to my old Dad who worked on motorways in the `60 s, who would bring back a sprig of pussy willow when it emerged and it would be placed by my mother with great reverence on the table in the best vase. Does this make me a Druid !!!!!!! signed, Confused of Lancashire..................

I feel that I must agree with Skippy. Spring is my favourite time of year because just about everything starts coming to life! Mind you, judging by the weather for the last three or four days, I reckon Spring has already arrived! I like Summer too, especially the sounds of Summer. Autumn? The colours maybe okay, but when it rains it pours and there's nowt worse than soggy leaves everywhere. Winter? Well, we don't get the winters that we used to do, at least not this neck of the woods. I like a good frosty morning for a good stomp, but from October to April it's just one big Autumn - wet, windy and miserable! Gimme Spring anytime.
