I suppose they do sound like that, its a churring noise. They also make a hand clapping noise with thier wings, which is easy to imitate and you will get a response.Icon_cool

You're right with Corncrake. They do sound like the 'stick on a comb' trick. Nightjars have a wonderful low churring call when they are perched and do the wing clapping in flight. Males have white spots on the wing tips and tail, Females dont.
