Dog mess
What is the point in clearing up your dog's mess, then not even putting it in a bin but throwing it in the nearest patch of woodland? I have seens this numerous times and it is really starting to get to me. Obviously once it is in a plastic bag it will degrade much slower than if the owner had just left it, so I don't understand the mentality of these people.
In the case of playing fields perhaps it is better than being left on football pitches for kids to fall into, but not by a lot. I'm sure that most dog owners are responsible but what can we do about the ones that aren't?

RE: Dog mess
That is odd! I bicycle on what is known in the United States as a Multiple Use Path, and all the users are quite good about taking a small plastic bag with them to pick up after their dogs. In fact, I have seen some get quite indignant about dog messes left on the trail until I explain that the mess was not left by a domestic dog, but a wild canine (coyotes)!
It does seem silly to clean up a mess, then fling the bag into the woods. Why not just fling the mess without a bag into the woods, as at least it would decompose more quickly.
I don't think there is much that can be done to make people more responsible for their pets! Perhaps just try to present a good example?

RE: Dog mess
People do this in my area and it annoys me greatly, especially when there is a bin 20 metres up the path. Like you have said, it would decompose much quicker if just left to itself.
I'm sure it is just a minority who do this, and frustrating as it is I odn't think there is a lot you can do other than - as Kingfisher suggested - set a good example yourself.

RE: Dog mess
I've never seen anyone in my area do this, I would hope they would have more sense!
There is no excuse to this sort of behaviour, unfortunately it is just hte vast minority who give dog owners a bad name.
