charity and sponsorship
Hi everyone, I was thinking of starting up my own sponsored event like a sponsered walk for a charity of my choice because at the minute there are currently none in my area that I want to sign up for.
I was wondering if anyone has set up a sponsorship before because I am unsure of how to get started & how to get sponsors etc
Any suggestions welcome

RE: charity and sponsorship
It is a great idea to raise money for charity, and I'm sure you will find lots of people willing to sponson you. I think it is always easier to get large numbers of sponsors if you do something a bit different from the norm, but even doing a sponsored walk and getting your friends and family to sponsor you will raise a nice sum for your charity.
Let us know how it goes!

RE: charity and sponsorship
We have raised money over the years for different causes. It can take any form that appeals to you but as Xeract says unusual events may attract larger sponsorship. I would think that you would have to decide from which area you are going to obtain your sponsors, obviiously which charity also has to appeal to people.
Over the years I have helped raise money for Church, Local School, Romanian orphanages, Children of Chernobyl , one little girl with no nose, a fireman who died whose dependants did not qualify for anything, & I am currently involved in raising sponsorship for a marathon runner who is running in aid of a work colleague's nephew who I also know, who needs a better wheelchair. The list is endless.
Working in a large organisation it makes it easier in one way but harder in another as people tend to get sponsorship fatigue.
All money raising for Charity is worthwhile even is it is not very much as it all adds up.
For example. For the fireman that died. We appealed for items for a car boot sale. Once we were inundated with items we used the money raised from that to pay for a DJ & rent a room for a disco. It may have been a bit of a risk but we had sole tickets prior & therefore although we lost the car boot sale money we managed to triple it by the disco. Not only that by being in an organisation the disco was used as a springboard for other events. I have seen that technique used before by giving people £5 & asking them to make more money by using it in ingenious ways.
We have had Charity rugby matches in fancy dress, sponsored walks, wheelchair pushes, because we couldn't get beds!!, bike rides, car boots, Ebay is good for raising a bit of cash, pumps pulls, car washes, bag packing at the local supermarket, raffles, marathons, discos . Once again it is only the limit of your imagination. I suggest getting like minded people involved as a core.[/u]

Those ideas sound fantastic tibbar. The thing is I don't have very much spare time so suggestions like ebay, raffles and car boot sales would fit in very nicely.

Good luck with whatever you do! No matter how big or small it is always wonderful to raise money for a worthy charity, and you will feel really good doing it.

Hi there
#I would suggest if you work for a company, or a comapny that uses another company get them to sponsor you. But dont send them expensive looking literature. They may like this because you can gain them publicity as well.
Hope this helps

Hi, always a great idea to raise money for charity - if you pick a wildlife one, why not do a wildlife themed event? Get like minded family and friends, and do something like a 'bird' race, where you have mini teams, and see who manages to spot the most birds in an area during daylight. You could even do it by garden birdwatching, so people don't even have to leave home! Get people to pay a contribution to do it, and ask others to guess how many they think you'll get. Good luck with whatever you go with.
