RE: Caterpillar ID

Do you have sawflies over here? looks pretty similar though maybe the heads aren't black enough.

Do as you would be done by. Do as you would be did. A burning pot is mighty hot, so don't sit on the lid.

I'm attaching an image of a sawfly catapillar - afraid I'll have to do it as a thumbnail as haven't set up an account yet to do it the proper way! You can see it on the bbc website at http://www.bbc.co.uk/theoneshow/gallery/...pies.shtml

RE: Caterpillar ID

Yeah, looks like a Sawfly to me. I am no expert on insects, but going by what I can see, it does look like a Sawfly. Icon_wink

RE: Caterpillar ID

sawflies are often specific to one plant if that helps - e.g. gooseberry sawfly . The foodplant normally at least helps with ID
also sawflies have a habit of stripping plants bare
they also hold the characteristic pose as in Ausjen's photo and have legs all down their bodies
not all species spin webs
I'm not sure if these are sawflies but try the moths count section of butterfly conservation for an ID

best wishes
