Has anyone seen any Canadian geese this year? A friend was telling me yesterday they had seen two groups fly overboth around the same time in the morning, but I have yet to see any.
On a side note, whereabouts do the geese migrate too? I had always assumed Africa but that seems like a very long way to go. Do they stay in Southern Europe?
We have had some on the local 'Marina' which is what we would call a 'Flash', it is a quarry pit from when they built the motorway.
This year they had babies also. I think I might have posted them under fledglings earlier but here they are.

We also saw a large skein of geese flying over the other night but seemed to be leaving rather than arriving. I will have to go down & check.

Hehehehe, living on the border of Canada leads to jokes about Canadian geese versus Canada geese .
What sound does a Canadian Goose makes?
Honk, eh?
Here in Washington the winter is mild enough that the Canada geese simply stay year round. There are two distinct populations--migratory birds (which fly south during the winter) and non-migratory.
It's quite possible that the Canada geese in the UK may not migrate at all.
These birds are about as popular as Himalayan Balsam on nature reserves. Noisy, messy, bullying invaders. Each and every egg laid should be "blown" in an attempt to control these monsters. Another example of introducing something which does not belong here, just like Grey Squirrel.
Yes you could well be right RO, bit like the intorduction of the 'Ruddy Duck' I suppose?
I had never thought of it like that as I quite like the look of them.
I have to admit I didn't know they were such a pest, I think I will look upon them in a different light now, even though they are quite majestic when flying in formation.
