Bottle-nosed dolphins

Bottle-Nosed dolphins are clever creatures, we have all heard the amazing stories of dolphins intelligence. While researchers are unsure how complicated their communication through clicks and whistles is, they can definitely pick out individuals and respond to each other.

Where is the best place in the UK to see the bottle-nose? While I have seen them in captivity (something which I think is bordering on cruel) I have never seen them in the wild.

RE: Bottle-nosed dolphins

Here are some places I found whilst searching the internet for seeing dolphins off the British coast. Bring some binoculars if you want a good view!

• Durlston Head - Dorset, England
• Prawle Point - Devon, England
• Porthgwarra - Cornwall, England
• Cardigan Bay - Cardigan, Wales
• Moray Firth - Inverness, Scotland
• Loch Gairloch - Wester Ross, Scotland

Thanks for the list, when I next get a chance I'm going to try and visit Durlston head as it is closest to me.

Has anyone ever swam with dolphins before? I've always wanted to but I was wondering things like how much it cost and where the best places are to go

It is something I would love to do (see the thread "Things you would like to do") but I never have yet. I have never heard of anywhere in the UK doing swimming with dolphins but that dosen't mean there is one.

I've only heard of swimming with dolphins in warm water areas--Hawaii and Bermuda are the two places where I remember it being offered (I did not go, as it was very expensive).

There are also some water parks which have dolhpins and allow you to swim with them in a pool (for a fee of course), although again I've never heard of this in the UK.
