Black-tailed Skimmer

Black Tailed Skimmer No1 of the year recently at Pennington Flash, Leigh, Lancs.

Very wet and teneral looking - unsure about male/female though.

Thanks riana - I'm pretty sure this had yet to take it's first flight - which accounts for me getting so close. Plus, I've been doing this a while and practice does help. As I moved around to get a side view it fluttered of up into the tree tops.

According to the distribution map in my Brooks filed guide - we don't get them round here. But I've photographed them two years running now!
