I love the last 2 posts, although I do not know much about sea birds apart from sometimes I see great big things & marvel at their size & their cheekiness.
As for the Hobby I quite like birds of prey when they are flying as they look magnificent, we often stop to watch as the Buzzards are swirling up on the thermals.Good pics !!
My bird of today is the Blackbird last week just about to go on the feeding station. On the feeding station it is getting mealworms & suet with insects & berries in it & then pops onto the lawn for a few worms & scavenge any dried food left from the rabbits.

My bird of the day today is the Mistle Thrush. We saw one yesterday but were not in a position for a pic , even though we tried. Today Hooray we had a few visiting our garden. Going back , not to remind folk that we have just come back from Cyprus , we did notice that the Rowan is full of berries all of a sudden. Noticing this we were then on the look-out for the maurauding hoards of starlings who fly in eat & then fly off.It is the only time we get starlings.
Today they came , went & had eaten but joined by a couple of Mistle Thrushes.

My bird of the day (although not my picture unfortunately) is the Swift. I love the way they fly, especially when they swoop close to the ground across a field.
There are some great pics on here, thanks to those for sharing. My bird of the day (not my favorite bird of prey the kestrel) is the Corncrake. I haven't got a picture as I didn't manage to see it, though I heard it alright, in a field on Papay Westray in the Orkneys last year. A great sound. So I pick the Corncrake for 'hanging in there' despite population declines throughout Europe.
You were lucky to even hear a corncrake, I never have! They are wonderful bids though from pictures I have seen. They are notoriously hard to see, partly because there isn't that many of them and partly because they spend most of their time in dense vegetation.
So true...I tried my best, but it was dusk, and the field (next to the re-built old church) was full of long tufts of grass and plowing ruts. I knew I didn't stand a snowball's, but tried anyway. Still very exciting to hear it though.
Although taken a little while ago, this Kestrel must rank pretty highly as my bird of the day. As she is resident at my place of work, I see her regularly.
