A 'Big Cat' was reported by someone doing the big Garden Birdwatch today! Light brown, about three times the size of a domestic moggy with triangular sheped ears and long (bushy?) tail. Footprints were found by Police Officers at the scene! The British Big cat Society have been informed. On speaking to them, it may be an Abysinian Cat? But who knows!

Hmmm!

We will need a follow up on this one.

There are so many of these sightings around the country it's difficult to believe there isn't truth behind at least some of them! Especially if there is footprints, that is much closer to real evidence than quick glimpses.

Lol this has been going on for years - Cornwall always seems to be the hotspot for this kind of thing - the Beast of Bodmin - or Bob! I still don't know what to believe, I'll follow the story, as I live in the West Country & see if I can find out anything else about it. (it was on the news last night - it just made me smile!)

Well i'm a true believer they are here, for more reasons than one. The problem is there are too many bogus sightings, making the true sightings seem dubious. This link shows how many are in private colections now, could you imaging how many where in captivity before the act?

If you look on that image, it looks like there is a cat face in the bush! There is two yellow dots in the bush, and they are the eyes. Its really freeky. Can anyone else see that?

You wont get one from me i'm afraid. Handed it over to the Big Cat Society. Not in my remit unless the cat kills something (or someone!!)

Quite coincidentally, my sister (who lives in California, in San Jose) sent me this glorious photo of a bobcat. She spotted this handsome fellow at a local reservoir, Calero Dam.



You can just barely see the tip of his bobbed tail!

Know a few people who have seen big cats. One was a complete doubter before he had his encounter.
A lot of people don't report their sightings for fear of ridicule.

That's a very good point. I'm sure I would think twice about reporting seeing a big cat unless I was absolutely certain. Even then I'm sure most people wouldn't take you seriously.

Photos are always good, but cats are extremely difficult to catch! I was quite surprised that my sister managed to do so.

That's a really good photo Kingfisher, seems like the cat was unaware.

That's the main problem with getting a photograph, because you're never going to be looking for one and if you see it, it is likely to only be a glimpse so it would be very difficult to get a photo or video. There have been several videos that seem to show something like a big cat, but they are always such low quality to be disregarded. You have to feel with the cheaper and better video and photo gadgets on the market if they are out there, they will be photo'd soon.

I know my sister took this photo with her iPhone, so I agree that eventually someone will get a good quality photo/video if the cats are there. Plus, if the cats are there, well, they leave physical traces behind. That would be scat... .

I have to agree with many of the posts above. My wife and I stayed in the northern area of the new forest a couple of years ago and she saw a big cat when we were out walking at dusk. It was very large and black in colour, wandering across a field. Even before this though there are just too many sightings - on the other hand if there are so many sightings then why are there no undisputable images? I mean if the beeb can spend so long getting good images of snow leopards in a huge, and pretty inhospitable mountain range then surely we can manage to root out some big cats in Devon/Cornwall?

We are investigating one or two seperate sightings at the moment in essex trouble is its so difficult we done a couple of stake outs at night where one of the cats was seen but all we saw was a fox at another sight is a bit more interesting so we cant give to much away at the moment but we think we some evidence of a largeish feline thats to be our next stake out point so hopfully we'll be able to get something from it to tell us one way or the other
