Baby rabbits

I always see baby rabbits when I'm in a car that sit on the side of the road next to a steep bank, why do they sit there?? Is it just bad luck or do they get confused or stuck there?

RE: Baby rabbits

Is it short grass on the bank? I see rabbits, and baby rabbits in particular, on the mown grass on the side of the local Mutiple Use Path. Rabbits graze on grass, just as cows and sheep do.

RE: Baby rabbits

I saw something similar to that years ago in Norfolk & also a lot of baby rabbits squished on the lanes. It turns out they were in the middle of an outbreak of myxomotosis & were going blind & couldn't see. I spent the rest of the hols coming back from the pub giving each one I found another day of life till they next sat on the road!!

Poor things! I often see baby rabbits on the side of the road too, especially on country lanes. It could well be another myxomotosis outbreak. Quite often the banks are very steep and I wonder whether the rabbit is stuck as Stu suggested, but I'm sure they could make it up if they tried.
