I have heard a lot of regular birders having a go at Mr Oddie when I have been at reserves, but I still like him and programmes like Springwatch have got a lot of people into wildlife.

Yes, there are two levels here, the armchair naturalists who enjoy being entertained on the goggle box, and the others who get out there and do it. The former love him, of the latter not all are so disposed.

I'll let you guess to which group I belong Icon_evil

I'm exactly the same - but I do watch SpringWatch more as I know the farm manager Pete Walters at the famous farm! (the man with the Jays - only one survived unfortunately Icon_sad)

But I love, love, LOVE going out there, all dressed up in waterproof gear, with my binoculars & camera & being out there with the wildlife - I'm an outside person anyway & could quite easily & happily live outside if I so wanted to - just wish it was a warmer climate!

As for Autumn Watch - I love that too & if I hadn't of joined the SW message boards I wouldn't be here, as I got hooked on them & hooked on the fab webcams!

RE: Autumn watch

Ooooh!
Thanks for letting me know that there is this programme...
I didn't even know that there is an autumn one.

To be honest, I don't watch much tv, but I first watched this after I had a very bad ankle sprain and I was forced to stay in and rest, for many many weeks.

It was awful to not be able to get out!
And it felt like I was going to miss so much.
And then I put the tv on.
And there was Spring Watch!

I think quite honestly that this programme kept me sane!
And I looked forward every day to watching the next installment.

And yes I do like to get out and see what I can, when I can, especially when it is a blue sky day,
but I do remember that when I couldn't get out, this programme felt like a life saver.

So I will watch it and enjoy it for the things that I can't see.
But sometimes I do wish that I do have more time to get out and see more than I do!

I enjoy both. I much prefer to be out there in the middle of nature and spend an awful lot of my time doing this. But on the flip side I also enjoy nature programmes.

I do as well think that people like Bill Oddie through programmes like springwatch have introduced people to UK wildlife and they then go out and enjoy it more first hand. I tend not to get too embroiled in liking or not liking personalities for whatever reasons - If they do a good job of presenting a programme then I will watch it if it is informative and enjoyable - their views etc outside of that presenter roll are not really my concern (I believe it is more Bill oddies views outside of his presenting roll that get some peoples back up - as well as sometimes his overbearing manner with Kate Humble - but she is a adult being paid to do a job so that isn't my argument to take on).

Well now it is getting colder I guess all of the waterproof and warmer gear will have to come out!

It's funny but I prefer seasons where I have to get the colder weather gear on - just seems to be more of an adventure getting wrapped up against the elements plus there is the plus side of less people out and about in the countryside. Come rain or shine though I can normally be spotted by the 'Indiana Jones' style leather hat I wear - which when I put it on I know I am off into the countryside for some exploring! Icon_cheesygrin

I was in Scotland at the start of last week and it was getting cold up there even in the Southern parts where I was! So yep warm gear a must I'm afraid.

I like both to do both too. I enjoy being out and about, and watching wildlife programmes - quite often if you do one, you tend to do the other.

Although I prefer Spring and Summer (especially Spring), I have to say that my local patch is usually at it's best in the colder months - a resevoir, with some nature trails and hides around it. Going there and seeing all the gatherings of duck and geese gives me a real lift, and makes me feel better about 'dark old winter'.

RE: Autumn watch

It was definitely an autumn day around the South East. The trees are turning red and brown, it was raining all day and I've got my first cold of the year Icon_rolleyes

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you recover soon. I guess that after such a disappointing summer colds and flu may well be prevalent this year as people's immune systems will not have had the opportunity to build up.

It was rather on the wet side yesterday. And today is a rather 'soft' day as well.

RE: Autumn watch

Icon_cry Boo Hoo, I only got to see two programmes, because I had to study for a test over the couple of weeks it was on.

I enjoyed what I saw though - the beavers, and especially the wild boar. Pretty amazing encounter that Simon King had. Smile

RE: Autumn watch

What are the message boards like this time? I hope the insults to the presenters have been stopped.
