It's the age old question that humans have been asking for centuries, but do you think we are alone in the universe?
I don't pretend to know much about the subject, but it seems to me that the vastness of space means that the chances are quite high. It would be amazing to think there is other life.
As a famous scientist whose name eludes me said, it would also be just as amazing if we were alone.
It would be wicked cool if there were diffrent lifeforms ot there like an alien, someone smarter than me might be able to make contact.

I know I'm never alone.
The doctor said I'm paranoid, and my other persona agreed.
I just keep taking the tablets.

Any alien species capable of making it to our planet or identifying that there is life here is also intelligent enough to give us a wide berth!
Given the billions upon billions of stars in the universe, most with planetary systems around, them there must be many millions of rocky planets partly covered with water that are just the right distance from their respective stars for life to have evolved.
The real question, I think, is not whether there is other life in the universe, but whether there is other intelligent life in the universe? Can life ever evolve into sustainable intelligent life, or does it inevitably destroy itself, as the human race seems determined to do?
That could be a possible reason why we haven't detected alien life - it tends to self destruct?
Im on the fence with this one. Sometimes I think its such a lucky sequence of events to lead to us to where we are now that it couldn't possibly of happened anywhere else. But then the universe is so mind-bogglingly huge that there must be something out there other than us
I think there is life out there other than us, it seems the more likely scenario! I don't believe in UFO's or anything like that though

I suppose it's possible that there are other intelligent life forms out there somewhere, giving the vastness of it all.
If you subscribe to a creator then why not believe that others life forms have also been created. If you believe in evolution than I guess it's acceptable to believe that evolution has ocurred elsewhere.
Back in 1976 I saw what I can only describe as a UFO, along with thousands of other people, over a period of two months. Whether this came from another planet or some secret millitary craft from this world, who knows.
We seem to be throwing so much stuff up into space these days that it's possible someone somewhere will be spotting our earth UFOs one day wizzing past their world in a far off galaxy which will prompt them into asking the same question.
I am about 99% convinced that there is other life.
If you think about it this way, it all becomes clearer:
The universe is massive. There are billions upon billions of stars in the universe, each of which have planets revolving around them. I just find it extremely hard to believe there isn't life on at least ONE of those planets
Anybody agree with me?
I tend to agree with you on that Jamie, due the absolute vastness of space, i too find it hard to belive that there is no other forms of life out there.

Exactly, I think anyone will realise after reading my little passage! I also thought of something else. Most of the planets have moons or satelites, and also asteroids which orbit around them.
I like talking about space; it one of my favourite things. Thanks for putting this thread up Riana!
There are billions of stars in our galaxy alone, with the majority having planetary systems. Then there are billions of galaxies, so I totally agree with you! Whether life always evolves to be intelligent is different though.
This is always a fascinating topic. I always think of the cave paintings that seem to depict people with space suits on - where did the idea come from to draw people like that if the artist hadnt actually seen them or been told about them?Lots of 'sightings' reported in deserted areas of Aus. I'd love to know but as others have commented - what self respecting alien would communicate with us? It would probably be cut up and dissected before it could blink.
The only reason I could think that aliens would come here and communicate is out of curiosity, because if they're so advanced that they can get here we would hav nothing to offer them.
I havn't seen those cave paintings, but it's fascinating if they are legitimate, as there's no way someone from that time period could imagine a space suit.
