It may seem a bit of a strange question, but roughly how fast can deer run?

I saw a dog chasing a deer the other day and the deer easily outpaced (and outsmarted it), so they must be able to go at some speed. It made me think whether they are the fastest mammal in the UK, and if they are not, what are?
They can run anywhere up to 40mph. And anyway, they don't run, they bound.

And if you wondered:
Deer are able to bound up to 40 miles per hour, jump 9 foot fences, and swim 13 miles per hour.

I know someone who was cycling past a deer fence in Scotland and got a hoof straight in the head from one leaping over at speed, amazing they can get so high.

I'm thinking they must be the fastest land animal here, they evolved to outrun the wolves that used to be here, although slower, the wolves would keep the hunt going for long enough to tire the deer and bring it down, canines main advantage is their stamina.

I guess lynx might get close at a sprint but nothing that's actually alive here can do those speeds that I can think of.
